The Best Ice Cream in San Francisco

November 4, 2016

The City by the Bay is known for its low hanging fog; with this characteristic cool weather, you would never guess that San Francisco is also an oasis of ice cream shops. Even on the mildest days, there are crowds waiting to let sweet ice cream slide across their palates. There are a variety of different ice cream shops that offer unique flavor experiences across the City in different neighborhoods, and there are always some favorites. Here are three great ice cream spots in San Francisco.

Humphry Slocombe

Humphry Slocombe is located in the Mission District and has shop in the Ferry Building as well. Open since 2008, this ice cream shop offers unique and experimental flavor combinations. A crowd favorite is the Secret Breakfast flavor, which is a combination of bourbon and cornflakes. Other adventurous flavors include Jesus Juice, which is a mixture of cola and red wine, and Blue Bottle Vietnamese Coffee.

Mitchell’s Ice Cream

A short distance from the Mission District in Bernal Heights, Mitchell’s has been open since 1953. Mitchell’s is famous for its award-winning, handmade ice cream that boasts delicious flavors from different cultures. Fan favorites include horchata, caramel praline, and eggnog. One particular specialty of Mitchell’s is its halo halo dessert; this is a Filipino dessert made from mongo beans, buko, pineapple, langka, ube, evaporated milk, and shaved ice.

Polly Ann Ice Cream

Located just blocks from Ocean Beach in the Sunset District, Polly Ann is a San Francisco institution. Polly Ann is perfect for you if you know you want to enjoy ice cream, but are not sure what you want to try. Spin the wheel and let fate decide your flavor. Polly Ann has flavors such as cookies and cream, butterscotch, and strawberry, lychee, and more. Take a cone to go and enjoy some time at the beach.
